Pupae
Honey bees develop from an egg into larva, then into pupae and finally emerge as an adult. The length of this process depends on the type of honey bee:
- 16 days for a queen
- 21 days for a worker bee
- 24 days for a drone
The honey bee queen will most likely live for 2 years, or even live 3 or 4 years, whilst male drones will live for about 55 days. Worker honey bees live different lengths depending on the season. Those that have been born in the spring may only live 6 or 7 weeks compared to worker bees born in the autumn which overwinter and may live 4 – 6 months.
